The IAMTA is the Subject Association for teachers of Applied Mathematics in the Republic of Ireland. The Association was founded in 2006 with the aim of supporting and promoting the subject of Applied Mathematics in the second level curriculum.
Confirmation of our young organisation’s appeal to teachers lies in a large membership and substantial attendances at each of the three Annual Conferences to date. These gatherings have afforded teachers an opportunity to exchange views, cement plans for the future and enjoy the social atmosphere of the conference dinner and lunch.
This year’s conference addresses the impact which the new ‘Project Maths’ curriculum will have on the applied mathematics curriculum. How should the subject adapt to this change? To date, as an organisation, we have achieved the Publication of an annual journal, distribution to members of modern teacher resources, securing of generous funding from DES through the TPN as well as the ceremony at conference of a gold medal and bursary (500 euro) to each of the top three students in Leaving Cert Applied Maths.
All of the above accomplishments were effected by the hard work and passion of the IAMTA Committee in conjunction with our members.
