Atlantic Network for Coastal Risks Management
National Seminar, 21 February 2012
Aula Maxima, Quadrangle Building, NUI Galway
NOTE: Registration is now at capacity and is closed. Those who have registered for the waiting list will be contacted if space becomes available.
The aim of this seminar is to present a newly developed set of practical tools for better incorporation of coastal risks into decisions made on the coast. The tools include educational guides on the nature of coastal risks and their effects; a handbook on the use of soft coastal protection solutions; a dedicated website; and a handbook on good practice in coastal land planning, which gives a step by step approach on how to incorporate coastal risk considerations into new development plans. The resources are targeted at decision makers involved in planning and managing our coast (including, county planners, engineers and councillors) AND at decision makers in a broader sense (i.e. individuals or organisations who contribute to the decisions being made) - for example, county environmental or heritage officers, NGO's, local development groups, commercial enterprises and associations, land and home owners, etc.
The seminar will also present examples of good practice and experiences from our neighbours on Europe's Atlantic coast. Space is limited and registration is required (there is no registration fee before February 16th; after this date a late fee of €100 will be charged). Early registration is advised. A number of travel bursaries are also available.
