The Irish Centre for Human Rights is pleased to host the 6th annual conference of the Association of Human Rights Institutes (AHRI) at the National University of Ireland, Galway from 30 September 2 October 2005. The conference is dedicated primarily to the EU-sponsored research project on Human Rights, Peace and Security in EU Foreign Policy which was concluded between COST (European Cooperation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Cooperation) and AHRI in 2004.

The conference will provide AHRI members active in the COST Action project with the opportunity to present new research findings within the framework of four working groups that have been established to explore and elaborate the following sub-themes of the COST Action project:

1.        Peacekeeping and peace enforcement
2.        International Criminal Tribunals
3.        Development Cooperation
4.        The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the High Commissioner on National Minorities of the OSCE

Doctoral students affiliated to AHRI member institutions are also encouraged to present work in progress on the subject matter during PhD sessions which will be organized on these sub-themes.

The conference is also open for other scholars involved in research on one of the four sub-themes of the COST Action.
