Using International Databases to Address Substantive Issues in Education, 24-26 June 2014



This Summer School is designed to prepare participants to conduct analyses with international databases to address substantive research questions in education. The three-day workshop will introduce participants to multiple international databases and focusing on the Program for International   Student Assessment (PISA), will provide hands-on instruction on the use of multilevel regression modeling for analyzing PISA data.

The overall goal of the Summer School is to prepare participants to access international databases and to use those databases in substantive research. The institute will include lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on instruction. Specifically, the Summer School will include the following:

 Overview of international database survey sample designs, data components, and access;

 The methodological and technical issues relevant to using      international databases;

 Introduction to multilevel regression modeling for analyzing data from international studies; and

 Instruction and hands-on practice using multilevel regression modeling with Irelandís PISA data.
