Health Promotion Policy and Practice

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the 20th Anniversary Annual Health Promotion Conference hosted at the National University of Ireland (NUI) Galway on Wednesday 15th June, 2016. Our focus this year is on the use of research evidence in developing and implementing intersectoral policy and innovative practice for health promotion. The conference will explore the use of more effective methods of translating evidence into effective health promotion action and consider how we can bridge the gap between ‘what works’ and ‘what happens in practice’.
This meeting marks 30 years since the publication of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion (WHO, 1986) and also celebrates 20 years of NUI Galway hosting the annual Health Promotion conference.
In collaboration with the Department of Health, Heath Service Executive, and the Association of Health Promotion Ireland we are delighted to welcome practitioners, researchers and policymakers to meet in Galway to reflect on the impact of health promotion since the Ottawa Charter, consider successes and current challenges, and envision how we can shape the future of health promotion and strengthen evidence-based action for improved population health.
We also invite all our delegates to join us at a Celebratory Reception, with a welcome by our NUIG President, at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 14th June.
Looking forward to welcoming you to Galway,
Professor Margaret Barry
Chair, 2016 Health Promotion Conference Committee
