Law, Revolution and Sovereignty
Reflections on the Legal Legacy of the 1916 Rising & Declaration of Independence

As part of NUI Galway’s commemorative programme for the centenary of the 1916 Rising, the School of Law will host a conference to consider the legacy of Irish independence and sovereignty in the domain of law and of legal thought.
In particular, the conference will address:
- The distinctive character of the legal order that developed post-independence.
- The impact of revolutionary ideals in the Irish legal and constitutional system.
- Constitutional experimentation and evolution in independent Ireland
- Concepts of nationalism and popular sovereignty and their impact in the domain of social and penal policy.
