Introduction to Praat. Voice analysis using Praat’s Voice Report
Presented by Dr Irena Yanushevskaya (Trinity College Dublin and NUI Galway)
This workshop will introduce participants to the basic functionality of Praat (Boersma & Weenink, 2017), a freely available acoustic analysis software widely used in phonetic and speech science research. The workshop is aimed at Speech and Language Therapists who would like to include acoustic analysis in their voice assessment practice.
The workshop will consist of two parts.
Part 1: General information and demonstration of the software
Part 2: Practical session in the PC suite
In the course of the workshop, the participant will get the opportunity to use Praat:
• to make an audio recording of speech samples
• to measure f0, jitter, shimmer and Harmonic-to-Noise Ratio (HNR) using Praat’s Voice Report
• to measure duration of segments
• to run a pre-written script to automate repetitive tasks
