The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures has been recently established within the College of Arts at this university. However, the long commitment of the individual disciplines to the promotion of innovative research and practice in Translation, Language Teaching and Learning allows the School to bring together for this conference an excellent working group for the promotion of dialogue and exchange on the topic of translation, technology and autonomy in Language Teaching and Learning. An Teanglann, as part of CELT, primarily supports the teaching and learning of modern languages in NUI, Galway; specifically French, German, Italian, Irish and Spanish. The combination of new technologies and teacher and student support in An Teanglann provide the best environment to explore the issues of this conference. Within Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, Aonad na Gaeilge deals specifically with language learning and teaching.
