|Habitat Mapping using multivariate species analyses and Geographic Information Systems
This two day workshop will introduce early stage researchers to map seafloor habitats from biological and environmental sampling surveys.
Topics covered will include:
· Seafloor classification techniques using sediment samples and bottom imagery.
· Multivariate analyses of biological data to delineate communities and identify characterising species.
· Classification of communities using EUNIS biotopes
· Mapping communities using geographic information systems (GIS).
This course can be booked on the EMBS website as part of your registration, click here to register.
The fee for the workshop is €50. This includes course materials and coffee breaks. Meals and accommodation are not included.
Numbers are limited to 30 participants and are offered on a first come basis. It is primarily aimed at postgraduate students and early stage researchers.
We will use ESRI ARCMap 10 for GIS and Primer 6 for multivariate analyses. No licenses will be provided for future software use. These can be obtained at normal academic rates directly
We encourage you to bring your own data to the course.
