Travel Information

Travelling by air

The university is within easy reach of Knock Airport, Dublin, and Shannon airports.

∑  Shannon Airport and Knock Airport are both just an hour's drive from Galway. To get to Galway, you can travel by bus with Bus Eireann or CityLink. Alternatively, car hire is easily available at these airports.

∑  Dublin International Airport is 3 hours drive from Galway city. You can fly from Dublin to Galway airport, or rent a car and drive using this journey planner to help you find your way. There are also a number of frequent and reliable bus services to choose from to travel to Galway, again with Bus EireannCityLink, or GoBus.

Another option from Dublin Airport is to taxi from the airport to Heuston train station and take the train to Galway.  (It is pretty relaxing and donít worry if you fall asleep as Galway is the last stop!)

∑  Galway's train station is just off Eyre Square, and is only 2.5 hours away from Dublin. Find out more information on services and timetables.

Galway is a compact city and thus walking from the train station or the bus station (both of which are just off Eyre Square) to the Harbour Hotel will not take long if you travel light.  (Donít attempt to carry your fMRI machine.)  There are also plentiful Taxis next to the train and bus station and a taxi ride to any of the Hotels in the city will only cost a few euro.

Traveling by Car

You may decide to stay in Galway for a few days after the meeting and a car would be a good option, particularly if you wanted to visit Connemara and trek around a bit.  Follow the directions below, or use this journey planner to plan your exact route to Galway.
