Update: May 2nd 2013 - 2 weeks to go to the 45th CIG!
Just a note to say that general registration is now closed for this year’s CIG, we will have over 250 delegates attending the conference this year.
A few presenters and chairs still need to register so I’ve left the online portal open for their use only, until Tuesday May 7th.
As you know the 45th CIG is being held in parallel with the Galway Dance Days Programme and workshops and events have been organised to compliment both. Attached please find the full Art and Geography/Dance Days Programme. CIG registered participants are welcome to participate in the Dance Days workshops free of charge. However pre-registration is required for some workshops with limited capacity. Please find registration form attached.
I will be in touch again regarding parking permits for delegates bringing cars to the university. Just for your own information, all of our off-campus venues in Galway City and the buses and train stations are in walking distance of the university. In addition, buses have been arranged to transport delegates after Prof David Harvey’s keynote on Friday evening (17th May) to the Meyrick Hotel for the conference dinner, so many of you may wish to leave your cars at your accommodation.

Update: April 24th 2013 - 3 weeks to go!
The Media training workshop, co-sponsored by the Geographical Society of Ireland, will take place in the Moore Institute seminar room in NUI Galway on Thursday the 16th of May, 2013. The workshop will commence at 930am (coffee break at 11am) and conclude at 1pm with a lunch break before the official start of the 45th CIG. The CIG registration desk will open at 1pm in the Engineering building.
This media training workshop will be tailored to suit the needs of the attendees. With this in mind if you hope to attend this workshop will you please email your name to Dr Frank Houghton (the PRO of the Geographical Society of Ireland) with a few sentences about your area of research interest and we will ensure that the media trainer focuses the session around the key interests of the audience. Please email your name and a short description of your key research interests to Frank at firstname.lastname@example.org before May 1st 2013.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to cancel the GIS workshop which we were hoping to run on Saturday morning the 18th of May. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
For those of you visiting Galway for the first time, or for anyone would like a bit of fresh air, we have organised a walking tour of Galway City from 11 – 1pm on Thursday the 16thof May, commencing at the Quad, NUI Galway. This is a rain or shine event, so please come prepared with appropriate raingear/sunscreen!
A map with all the relevant conference venues is now available open our website and information about parking in NUI Galway will be available from the conference website in the coming days.
For those of you who wish to pay for Conference Dinner tickets (€40) or Dance Days tickets (€30 for 3 performances) when you arrive at the conference venue, please note that we will not have credit card facilities at the conference registration desk, so we will only be able to facilitate cash transactions.
Finally, thank you to the 160 delegates who have registered to date. We have had such a fantastic response to the CIG this year that we are almost at capacity and we will have to close the online conference registration portal on May 1st. If you are presenting a paper, poster or participating in a panel, will you please ensure that you have registered before May 1st 2013.
