About the Workshop
A proactive patient-centred care team can optimize hospital outcomes. Designed and managed properly, hospital units can engage, support, and sustain these high functioning patient-centred teams. This workshop will provide a practical overview of the convergent structure, process, management, training, and system features that improve the outcomes for hospitalised patients and the frontline professionals who care for them. The course will draw directly upon the experiences of launching and developing Accountable Care Units (ACUs) with Structured Interdisciplinary Bedside Rounds (SIBR) at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta and beyond.
The ACU-SIBR model has been implemented in multiple hospital systems in the U.S. and Australia and has also been included in the project portfolio of the US Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation Center.
Who Should Attend
This short-workshop is aimed at all frontline professionals or executives with an interest in leading or participating in a hospital care model designed to maximize quality, reliability, accountability, and patient-centeredness. The intended audience includes hospital unit leaders (e.g. physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals); hospital leadership (e.g. executive leadership, nursing leadership, clinical governance, and quality and safety officers); and medical and nursing educators (e.g. directors of training and professional development programs).

Jason Stein, MD SFHM, Emory University and Centripital
Jason is a hospitalist at Emory University Hospital (EUH), Atlanta, where he has also served as the Director for Quality & Research for the Division of Hospital Medicine at Emory University.
Jason has co-developed hospital care improvement strategies which have been incorporated into position papers published by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality and the National Health Service in the UK.
Jason and his colleagues at EUH have re-designed traditional medical wards into Accountable Care Units. In its inaugural year of 2012, the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services Innovation Center selected Jason as an Innovation Advisor.
The ACU model won the Society of Hospital Medicine’s Innovations Award in 2012 and has been implemented in hospitals in the United States, Australia and Singapore.
Jason is the President of Centripital, a non-profit company with the mission to train hospital professionals to work as high functioning teams. Jason has received consulting fees from teaching hospitals in the US, Australia, and Singapore.
