Travel to Galway

There are a number of options for delegates travelling by air; Ireland West Airport Knock, Shannon Airport or Dublin Airport.

IRELAND WEST AIRPORT KNOCK

Knock is the main international air access gateway for the West, North West and Midland regions of Ireland. The Airport is located 89 km from Galway city and transit time is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes by car. Bus Services

Bus Eireann offers a connection from Ireland West Airport Knock to Galway City Centre on its Expressway/Intercity service (Route 64). Delegates can avail of services from the airport to Galway daily at 08.55am, 10.55am, 12.50pm, 14.50pm and 16.55pm - Transit time 1 hour 50 minutes approximately. Return journeys to the airport from Galway City are available at 06.00am (Mon - Sat only), 08.45am, 10.30am (Mon - Sat only), 12.00pm, 14.10pm, 16.00pm - Journey times vary from 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes depending on the service chosen. SHANNON AIRPORT

Shannon Airport is located in the Midwest of Ireland approximately 84 km south of Galway city. Transit time from Shannon to Galway is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes by car. The airport offers services to and from a range of UK airports including Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Liverpool and London (Gatwick, Heathrow & Stansted).

Bus Services

Bus Eireann Expressway/Intercity service from Cork to Galway (Route 51) serves Shannon Airport. Services depart the airport en route to Galway on an hourly basis from 07.55am to 20.55pm daily - average transit time 1 hour 50 minutes. DUBLIN AIRPORT 

Dublin Airport offers services to 28 UK airports and a European network covering 100 airports. Complete details of destinations and flight options are available at  www.dublinairport.com/gns/flight-information/flight-timetables/online-timetables.aspx Dublin airport is situated around 10 km north of Dublin city and is significantly further from Galway than its regional counterparts i.e. 216 km - transit time 2 hours 20 minutes by car approximately.

Bus Services

Multiple return services from Dublin airport to Galway are offered daily by private operators GoBus and Citylink. Average journey times vary between 2 hours 45 minutes and 3 hours. Please note that Citylink offer both an express and a commuter service to and from the airport. The transit time on the commuter service is approximately 1 hour longer than the express service due to the additional stops so we would advise delegates to opt for the express service. Timetables and pick up points for both services can be viewed on the following links

Bus Eireann offer an Expressway/Intercity service from Dublin to Galway (Route 20) which can be availed of by delegates. This route has two variants, one which includes an airport stop (X20) and the other which does not. This latter service would necessitate a connection between the airport and Busáras (the central bus station) in the city centre. This journey can be undertaken by taxi or alternatively by an Airlink 747 - a bus service which connects the airport with Busáras and Heuston Rail Station. It departs from directly outside the Arrivals building every 15 to 20 minutes from 06.00 to 23.30 Monday to Saturday and from 07.00 to 23.20 on Sunday. Full details of the Bus Eireann and Airlink 747 timetables can be viewed on the following links

Train Services

Those who wish to travel by train from Dublin to Galway can avail of the Airlink 747 service from the airport to Heuston Station (as per the details above) to connect with Iarnród Éireann train service which operate from Dublin (Heuston Station) to Galway (Ceannt Station) at 07.30, 09.30, 11.30, 14.30, 15.30, 16.30, 17.45, 19.15 Monday to Saturday.
