Professor Arlene Kanter is the Bond Schoeneck & King Distinguished Professor of Law at the Syracuse University College of Law. She was also named the Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence, Syracuse University’s highest faculty award.  She is the founder and director of the Disability Law and Policy Program and co-director of the SU Center on Human Policy, Law, and Disability Studies. She worked with the UN on drafting the CRPD, and since then, she has worked with several countries on their implementation of the CRPD.  She is the author of many articles and book chapter, and author of the first law casebook on international human rights and mental disability law,  a recent book on disability studies, law, and eduation, titled, Righting Educational Wrongs, and her book on the CRPD, titled, From Charity to Human Rights: The Development of Disability Rights Under International Law is forthcoming from Routledge Press. She is the founder and editor of the international electronic SSRN Journal on Disability Law, co-founder of the Disability Law Section of the American Association of Law Schools, and co-founder of the Disability Studies Research Network of the International Law and Society Association. She is a former Commissioner of the American Bar Association Commission on Disability, a Fulbright Scholar and the recipient of the 2010 Distinguished Switzer Award from the US Dept of Education.
