Cóilín started his teaching career in 1978 in a six-teacher country school in Rathfeigh, Co Meath becoming principal in 1986. He worked in Al Imam Malik School in Saudi Arabia from 1992-1996 while on career break and became principal of St Mary’s Primary School in Trim in 1998. He completed a Masters in Educational Leadership with Trinity College Dublin in 2009. In 2010 he worked in St Patrick’s Primary School Koroit, Victoria, Australia, as part of a teacher exchange scheme before returning to Trim where he currently works. The school has a pupil population of 613 who are educated by a staff of 32 teachers, 4 SNAs and six ancillary staff. The school is a vertical school with children from ages four to thirteen. There are 22 mainstream teachers, three Special Ed teachers, one Mixed (Special Ed) class and two SLT classes. These classes are attended by pupils from all-over County Meath.
