Thanks to grants from the Wellcome Trust and the British Society for the History of Science, grants of up to €150 are available for attendance at STEP 2010 at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Grants will be given in the form of reimbursement for costs incurred which may include registration fees, travel and/or accommodation.
Preference will be given to:
- Applicants who are registered for a postgraduate degree, are independent scholars or are junior academics (within 5 years of completing a PhD).
- Speakers who are participating in sessions relevant to the history of medicine (Wellcome Trust grants only).
Please note that applicants in receipt of a BSHS Butler-Eyles travel grant (see below) are not eligible for a further grant from BSHS funds, but may apply for one funded by Wellcome Trust.
Applications should be made on the form provided, and sent to Juliana Adelman, Department of History, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin 2, Ireland and marked ‘STEP bursary’. The deadline is 1 June 2010. Applications may also be sent by email to email@example.com. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that an application is received before the deadline.
Applications will be considered by the local committee, and other experts as appropriate. No interviews will be held. An amount less than that applied for may be offered. No correspondence will be entered into except under exceptional circumstances.
A claim form will be sent to successful applicants by email and will also be available at the conference. Grants can then be claimed by submitting the claim form, with proof of travel costs, to Juliana Adelman at the conference.
Any students who are members of the British Society for the History of Science should note that they may also apply directly to the BSHS under the Butler-Eyles Grant scheme, for assistance with their travel costs to the STEP meeting in Galway. The deadline for that is May 15th.
